Lifestyle portraits: a fun approach to family photos

If you’ve had a family portrait taken, you’ve likely sighed in frustration at the results: Grandma’s eyes are closed, Uncle Jim looks tipsy, and red-faced toddlers are bawling.

That’s not my approach to family photography.

I believe the photo shoot should be fun, and that it should capture real family moments in an environment where you feel relaxed.

I recently accompanied a family to a local park, where I photographed their two little boys battling with Star Wars lightsabers.

  • I’ve photographed families riding bikes and strolling through the park.
  • I’ve photographed newborns snuggled in a beautiful blanket, sleeping peacefully.
